Simulation Centre

The Simulation Centre is a truly flexible environment designed to facilitate the development of clinical skills, situational awareness, and team training through interactive scenarios across a range of clinical settings.

We have a dedicated Simulation team of educators, technicians and administrators, led by Dr David Robinson, Consultant in Emergency Medicine at BTHFT.

We have a wide range of teaching experience and expertise from utilising critical incidents, key patient safety agenda and specific curriculum competencies.

The centre has a large multipurpose area which can be set up as an Anaesthetic room, Emergency Department, Resuscitation room, Obstetrics or Theatre environment.  There is full SMOTSTM AV for video debrief within the two discussion rooms.

There is a link to a 4 bedded ward area with its own dedicated AV equipment.  This allows course directors to develop fully immersive skills and simulation training programmes across a range of venues including transfer to and from emergency vehicles.

Key equipment in the centre includes SimMan3G, BabySim, 5 year old HAL, new-born HAL and the NOELLE Obstetric Manikin together with a specialist Hill Rom birthing bed.  A modern crash trolley, patient transport trolley, anaesthetic machine, patient hoist, and assisted WC combine with various other clinical accoutrements to add to the realism of the centre.
